SOCIAL COMMITMENT  

At the end of 2011, the Dental Specialists journeyed to Tanzania for the first time to establish a dental clinic. The project 'Daktari for Maasai' was born! The project is centred on the concept of providing mobile dental care to people in the remote regions of Tanzania, where there is virtually no dental service. One single dentist in the region serves approximately 100,000 patients.

This means that tens of thousands of patients in urgent need of treatment will never have the opportunity to see a dentist in their lifetime and will have to endure severely diseased teeth, pain, and the resulting health consequences. This is why 'Daktari for Maasai' regularly travels to the most remote regions of Tanzania to deliver dental care specifically to these individuals in need. The heart and starting point of the aid project is a small clinic in Ololosokwan, a village of 5,000 people on the edge of the Serengeti. Dr Jörgens became aware of this clinic during a private trip to Africa. When he saw the word 'Daktari' (Swahili for doctor) above the entrance door, he knew he had found the perfect location for the Dental Specialists' aid project. There was no running water or electricity in this clinic and very little medical equipment.

Patients can now receive treatment on mobile chairs equipped with modern technology. In the last three years, more than 2,000 patients have been treated, some of whom had never been to the dentist before. Additionally, the same project has already been carried out twice in Zanzibar.
